Jeanette,
i have just returned from a trip to Darlington,Darlington Co. SC. in several Land documents. there appear Cannady Surnames with Sherod Horn and Horn's in Darlington.Martha Kennedy Horne was noted from SC born in 1785.died in Newton Co.Ms. in 1850.she was the wife of Needham E. Horne born in NC in 1782. Needham was the son of Sherod Horn who was in Darlington Co. SC from 1790-1809. Family passdown is that Martha was a Cherokee Extract. many of Our Horne Family Carry Indian Characteristics.
Sherod Horn moved to Ga. after 1809. 2 of his sons Sherod H. Horne and Needham E. Horne b. 1782 in N.C.(Martha's Husband) went to Tenn. around 1812. they left a cousin in white co. Tenn. named Sherod Horn b. abt. 1789. Needham E. Horne b. 1782 in NC. had a son David Thurmond Horne born June 12, 1812 in Tenn.Needham moved back to Hancock Co. Ga. around 1815.Have a court deposition where Sherod H. Horne had lost a Note(Loan) belonging to Needham Horne. while crossing Indian Territory from Tenn. to Ga. my great grandfarther Benjamin Sherod Horne son of Needham was born July 29, 1815 in Hancock co. Ga. the story that Martha was a cherokee extract may not be true in that Sherod Horn's wife was Patsy Thurmond. She ,too was said to be the Cherokee Extract. Sherod Horn was a Scotch-Irishman b. between 1761-1765.His place of birth is still to be determined.
Martha Kennedy Horne did name her first born male child John Kennedy Horne.John and his brothers David and Benjamin (My great-grandfather)all named a son John Kennedy Horne. my grandfather was named John Kennedy Horne b. 1880 in Newton Co. Miss.My grandfather pronounced his name Kan-Na-dae.He became very ill if you said Ken-ne-dy.He did spell it Kennedy though. My mother at John's death told the Headstone man it was spelled Kannada. My father became very ill at her and spelled it Kennedy not Kannada. P.S. stay in touch
