This would be better if I actually knew what my great grandparents names were; I just knew them as "Ma" and "Pa" Horn. (Ma's maiden name was Hatfield; I've been told that Pa Horn owned land that is now part of Mammoth Cave National Park.)
One day Pa left home to go hunting (his nickname was "Bear" Horn). That day Pa Horn didn't have much luck hunting, but it was the fruit picking time. His path back to the house caused him to pass through the orchard. Not having anticipated coming home without game, he had not taken a basket to put fruit in. Being resourceful, he took his pants off, tied a knot in each leg and filled the pants with some nice ripe fruit - - hoping for homemade pies or cobbler.
Much to his surprise - - and embarrassment - - while he was gone some ladies from the church had come unexpectedly to call on Ma Horn.
Maybe his nickname was "Bare" Horn???
