John Thomas Horn was my great grandfather. I have the following information that is consistent and was provided by many reliable sources.
John Thomas Horn was born on 12/19/1845 in Owsley, KY. He died on 11/14/1928 in Jackson, KY. He was the third child & first son of Isaac Stewart Horn and Mary Culton Horn.
John T. Horn was married twice. His first wife was Pearcy Golden. They had eight children. Their names are: William J. Horn, Mary Hilia Horn, Dora Horn, Oliver Preston Horn, Maude Horn, Ben Horn, Leona Horn & Issac Stephen Horn (born 5/18/1873).
John’s second wife was Sallie McDaniel Horn (born in June, 1874, died in 1957) and they were married in 1896. They had nine children. Their names are: Horace Horn (born in 1897 and died in a mining accident when he was around 20); George Dewey Horn (born in 1899); Nancy Euphema Horn (born in 1902); Viney Josie Horn; Rachel Horn; Pearl Horn; Mamie Belle Horn; Minnie Horn & James Riley Horn.
A 1900 Census shows that Oliver Preston Horn lived with John T. and Sallie McDaniel Horn for awhile.
Isaac Stewart Horn was born on 9/08/1819 in Knox, KY and died on 8/07/1877 in Pineville (Bell), KY. His parents were John Christopher Horn and Elizabeth Horn. Mary Culton Horn was born on 4/03/1817 in Knox, KY and died on 11/15/1880 in Pineville (Bell), KY to John Culton and Euphemia Stewart Culton.
Issac and Mary were married on 3/12/1839 in Knox, KY. They had five children. Their names are: Elizabeth Catherine Horn (born 1/07/1840 Knox, KY); Frances Euphema Horn (10/14/1843 Owsley, KY; John Thomas Horn (12/19/1845 Owsley, KY; Martha Jane Horn (10/29/1850 Owsley, KY) & Christopher Montgomery Horn (8/20/1853 Owsley, KY).
ISAAC’S ANCESTORS
John Christopher Horn (Isaac’s father who went by the name of CHRISTOPHER) was born on 12/18/1752 in either Virginia or Kent , Maryland (depends on source) and died on 3/19/1839 in Knox County, KY. His parents are believed to be Aaron Horn I (born about 1735 in Elsof, Westphalia, Germany, died on 10/1/1778 in Fort Boonesborough, KY) and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown – do not confuse with the Elizabeth that married John Christopher) who was also from Germany.
Aaron Horn’s father was Johann Matthias Horn (born in either 1717 or 1718 in Elsof, Westphalia, Germany). Mother is unknown.
Johann Matthias Horn was born to Johann Krofft Horn (born before 1696 in Elsof, Westphalia, Germany) and Christina Elizabetha Hayn-Bach. They were believed to have married on 10/23/1715.
MARY CULTON’S ANCESTORS
John Culton was born in 1790 in Augusta County, Virginia and died in 1852 in Knox County, KY.
Euphemia Stewart Culton was born about 1789 in Virginia and died sometime after 1870 in Knox County, KY. to Alexander (Stuart) Stewart and Mary Anderson.
Alexander Stewart was born in 1755 in Scotland (probably Galloway) and died in 1835 in Flat Lick, Knox County, KY.
Mary Anderson was born in 1760 in southwest Virginia.
John Culton and Euphemia Stewart Culton were married 2/23/1809.
