Charles Edward Horn (Sr.) was a composer, singer and (in 1847) conductor of the Handel and Hadyn Society of Boston, which is still in existence. He was baptized in London on June 21, 1786, the son of Karl Frierich Horn, who was Music Master to Queen Charlotte and the royal children. In 1810 he married at Prittlewell (Essex) Matilda Ray, the daughter of Edward Adam Ray (my 4-times-great grandfather). Horn’s biographer calls Matilda “a celebrated actress” and says their courtship “was carried on in a quiet way and... the marriage was performed in grand ceremony,” but does not give his source for these statements.
For more on C. E. Horn, see Richard A. Montague’s Charles Edward Horn, His Life and Works (Tallahassee, Florida, 1959). This was a published dissertation and can be obtained through interlibrary loans.
