Henry George Harkan-Cork to NB, Canada

Because Harkan and Horgan are similar in pronouciation, I thought I'd post a query concerning my great grandfather Harkan. He was born 14 Jun 1851 in Cork possibly son of George Harkan. In 1872, Henry (Harry) came to Canada with a Cork construction company hired to assist in the building of the railway through New Brunswick. After the construction was complete, he became employed with the Intercolonial Railway in Campbellton, NB and married Elizabeth Daly. He died 16 Oct 1927.

Some years ago, a person from Ireland suggested that since there was no letter "k" in the Irish language, it was probable that the original spelling would have a "g" instead of the "k" in the name. Would be interested hearing whether or not this suggestion may have merit.
