John Hord is an intriguing character and I have been trying to find more about him myself.
Somewhere I read that he came to America after his involvement in the Monmouth (Protestant) uprising against King James II (Catholic).I found a couple books on that uprising and found that all the people involved in that rebellion were either sent to the dungeons or sent off to Virginia as indentured servants. The next King who came along shortly thereafter, pardoned all the prisoners from that rebellion.I thought I was on to something - i.e., that John Hord came to Virginia as a servant - but there was a listing of all the indentured servants involved in that uprising and John was not listed. So, it could be that he was a low level character that nobody cared enough to list, or that he used an alias, or that he just happened to come to Virginia at the same time as all the indentured servants and was not really involved in the rebellion at all.
Anybody else found anything on the subject?By the way, all I have on John is at my website so feel free to make comment on anything and let me know if you find innaccuracies.I'm having some trouble keeping up with the changes lately but I'll put them on my todo list.
