Horan/Horn/Horne families

Has anyone considered the idea that Horan might be a variant of HORN/HORNE??? Especially when the individuals involved could not read or write? I think this is entirely possible and might lead to some breaking of the barriers in the ol proverbial road block.

My ancestor was Joshua Horn b 1796 NC who married Dorothy Ann Waits d/o Samuel Waits. I have been totally unable to find who Joshua's parents were.

I have started a HORN DNA project at www.familytreedna.com and have included HORAN in the list of suspects. We have 51 HORN/HORNE's in the project so far and would invite all HORAN's to participate.
