Candice, You're very welcome for the info. I'm in Davenport, Iowa now, but I grew up very close to Alburg, Vermont, easily within driving distance of Sutton. The Sutton parish records list that Alfred Hopson had a common-law relationship with Cornelia Ellen Louise Hudson, and that he's buried in Grace Church Cemetery. He's actually in Fairmount Cemetery in Sutton. (Although, for all I know Grace may be just another name for Fairmount.) Also in Fairmount is a gravestone for Charles E. Hopson (1876-1962) and his wife Myrtle E. Parks (1888-1957). Is this your Charles? I dug through my notes again and found more info: James Hopson (1833-1923)'s gravestone in Sutton lists his wife as Sarah Wilson (1837-1916) - perhaps a second marriage? The parish records list Sarah's death as Oct 29, 1916. I think I found more of Alfred and Cornelia's family in the parish records. All are listed as "illegitimate": Glenna Beryl Hopson - b. Jun 17, 1919 Sutton Harriet Imogene Hopson - b. Dec 20, 1920 Sutton. Baptised. Married Dec. 20, 1938 Sutton, groom not listed Robin Frances Hopson (son) - b. Jul 2, 1922. Baptised. Louise Maud Hopson - b. Aug 17, 1924. Baptised. Married Feb. 14, 1942, signed marriage record, groom not listed. James Russell Hopson - b. Jan 17, 1926. d. Jul 8, 1926. Baptised. Buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Sutton. Lila May Hopson and Ensign Curtis, from my last message, were my great-grandparents on my mother's side. Lila would have been Alfred's niece... I wonder if she knew about the bordello? If you're interested in the parish records, they come from Grace Church in Sutton, an Anglican church. Parish of Sutton Box 531 Sutton, PQ J0E 2K0 (450) 538-8108 And I understand the Anglican diocese maintains archives in Montreal. www.montreal.anglican.org/parish/sutton Again, you're welcome to whatever info I can find, and thank you for info on your side. Sincerely, Robert Notify Administrator about this message?
