The Henry County Iowa Genweb site contains a transcription of marriages 1836-50 which shows
Castile, Mahala Jane married Hobson, James Riley on 17 Oct 1849

[direct access to the marriages at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iahenry/hmarr1836_1850.htm]

Is it possible that your James Hobson was related to the 60 yr. old Andrew Hobson shown in the 1850 census of the Baltimore Township of Henry Co Iowa? James had a son named Andrew so maybe there's a connection.

1850 Census Henry Co Iowa, Baltimore Township, p. 266, #1507:
Andrew Hobson, 60, m Farmer RE 400, North Carolina
Ruth       "       55                            "
Melinda       "       25                      Indiana
William "       18       Do               "
Wesley "       11 m                      "

on p. 265, #1491 was
Stephen Galyon, 24, m, Teamster, Kentucky
Alamenta "        20 , f,         Indiana
Zacharriah "        9/12 m         Iowa
Elizabeth Jones, 63 F,               Maryland

Good luck.
