Judith, while at the NYG&B today, I found an abstract for James Frost's will in the Calender of Wills on file at the New Jersey State Archives. The abstract states:
"1789, Nov. 4. Frost, James, of Middletown Township, Monmouth Co.; Wife, Mary, to have a decent living. My daughter, Sarah Hoppins, land along George Taylor and Daniel Covenhoven.Grandson, James Frost, 1/2 of the woodland along John Stillwell. To said Sarah Hoppins and her heirs she hath by Samuel Hoppins a meadow.Granddaughter, Esther Frost, L100, to be paid by her brother, James Frost.Executors-friend, Samuel Hoppins, James Frost and Esther Frost.Witnesses-John Stillwell, Zephaniah White, Samuel Tunis.Proved Nov. 16, 1789.
1789, Nov. 14.Inventory, made by Thomas Seabrook and John Stillwell.Lib. 30, p. 170"
Unfortunately, James' will does not name Sarah's children. The meadow mentioned in the will is probably the same as the salt meadow that Ann and Joseph Chasey sold to James Hopping in 1820.
I found only one record under the Primrose surname, but it may be of interest to you:
"1735, Feb. 24.Primrose, James, of Hanover, Hunterdon Co.; Wife, Experience, executrix.Brother, Henry.Witnesses-John Lindly, Jr., Caleb Fairchild and James Frost.Proved Dec. 11, 1739.Lib. 4, p. 212"
Both wills can be ordered from the NJ State Archives in Trenton. It would be interesting to compare the two James Frost's signatures to see if they are the same person.
On the subject of Abraham Smith...Sarah Hopping's husband, John Dorn, is the son of Nicholas Dorn and Sarah Smith.Sarah Smith had a brother named Abraham, probably the same Abraham that may have been Sarah Frost's first husband.I have been unable to find anything at all about Abraham, so have no idea who he married or when he died.Where did you find a reference of his marriage to Sarah Frost?
Judith, if you email your mailing address to me, I would be glad to send you copies of the documents I have on the Hoppings.
Susan
