Genealogy 101. Prior to the middle 1800s, spelling was imprecise. It is not a case of the clerk's illiteracy as much as spelling was not considered important. Clerks wrote down names the way they heard them.
I am still puzzled by your initial reference to "a difference of opinion regarding her parentage in the several sources I can access."
I again did a google search and did not find any differences of opinion. What are your sources with differing opinions as to her parentage? With that information, we can share our information and begin to weigh the validity of the differing sources.
Most of the research on this branch of the Hoppings has been done by the Schumachers (deceased now) and myself. What I find on the internet came either directly or indirectly from us.
