Hi Julian,

My maiden name is Hoppe to. Im from Germany and I know the name Hoppe comes also frome riding a horse. It gives an German children Song:

Hoppe hoppe Reiter, wenn er fällt dann schreit er, fällt er in den Graben,
fressen ihn die Raben, fällt er in den Sumpf macht der Reiter plumps

It means (I had translate it with google, my english isnt good)

Hoppe hoppe rider, if he falls then walks it, falls it into the ditch, eats it the raben, falls it into the sump makes the rider plump.

I think some Hoppe´s was Beer brewer.

My grandfather is Werner Hoppe, he was born on 12.2.1922 in Dresden. He married Doris Zimmermann.
My Uncle Bernd Hoppe was born on 12.1.57 at Hessen.
My mother Sabine Hoppe was born on 4.12.1961 at Leverkusen.
I was born as an Hoppe to on 28.4.1983 at Leverkusen.
