My great-great-grandfather was Josef Hoppe from Westfalen. He would have been born around 1856 - I'm sorry, I don't yet know whereabouts.
He married Elena (born around 1857)and they had sons in Germany, a daughter in Belgium (my Great-Grandmother, Elisabeth born around 1880) before settling in the UK in London (where they had another son). The UK census of 1881 shows them living in the UK by then.
If my investigations show up a connection I'll let you know.
Likewise, if yours show a connection, I'd be pleased if you would let me know.
I'm not acquainted with Die Judenbuche I'm afraid. What is it about? I found it on the web but my schoolboy German is not good enough for me to read it.
