Looking for a Hopkins Family in North Western section of South Carolina

I cannot find any information on my Hopkins family in North Western section of South Carolina. It's like a big black hole. The census reports they were born in South Carolina 1790 and 1810 but I can't even find a trail, no marriages, and no nothing. They left South Carolina around 1836 to come to Georgia but nothing before that. Are they a lot of folks like me with a big black hole in this section of the state or is my family just one of the hard families to locate? Looking for James Hopkins born in 1790 and George W. Hopkins born in 1811? Could be father & son or just kin.
