Hi Darlene

I do not know if this will help you but I found the 1880 USFC on Shelby County. In it states that

Martha V. Childress age 30 b. about 1850 in Texas, wife of
John Childress age 31 b. 1849 Texas , a Blacksmouth by occupation

were liveing in Precinct 4, Shelby, Texas.
They had the following children:
Susan J Childress age 10 b. Texas 1870
William B. CHildress age 8 b. Texas 1872
James E. Childress age 4, b. 1876 Texas
Arthur H. Childress b. 1879 Texas

On the origional had written copy of the 1880 USFC of Shelby that is in the National Archives Records Adminitration T9, 1454 rolls, it also states that his parents were both born in Tenn and Martha's parents were both born in Alabama.
I got the information through Ancestry.com

I do not know if I have helped you any but it might give you a place to look for Daniel as the above states her father was born in Alabama.
Good luck and God Bless
