A biography/family history of David Reise Hopkins is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2, Image 499.

David R. Hopkins was born, 4 Jan 1871, to W.T. and Ann (Roberts) Hopkins, both born in 1843, Wales. Children: Sarah Catherine (Mrs. Moses Thatcher), Logan, UT; David R.; W.T., Jr., who died at age 16.

David R. Hopkins attended public schools of Logan, UT, until age 16 when he became self supporting. In 1886, he located to Montana to work on a ranch at Spring Hill (now Lima) for four years. He became a brakeman on the Utah Northern Railroad at Lima until 1894 when he located to Butte, MT, as yardman for the Montana Union Railroad. In 1905, he transferred to Billings, MT, as yardmaster for the Northern Pacific Railroad until 1918 when he was plaed in charge of the company yards at Laurel, MT. He owned a 320-acre ranch in Carbon County, MT.

In 1894, Lima, MT, David married Miss Lillian Baker, born Mapleton, KS. Children: Alfred, died in infancy; W.B., born 19 Dec 1897; Sarah (Mrs. Bryant Nutting), b. 14 Mar 1892; Blodwyn (Mrs. Seymour Anderson), b. 24 May 1904; David R., Jr., b. 29 Dec 1906.

David R. Hopkins, Sr., died 19 Dec 1945, age 74, Yellowstone County, MT.
David R. Hopkins, Jr., died 9 Dec 1937, Age 29, (suicide) Yellowstone County, MT (Helena Independent, 10 Apr 1937)
