Hi Jeffrey;
Eliza A. Hope was the only daughter of Thos. (Thomas)and Mary (Watson) Hope. I'm afraid I can't help you on Thomas, yet, but Mary Watson was the 5th of 8 children born to John and Anne (Bliss) Watson, both of East Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut. Mary was born ca. 1799 in East Windsor.
John Watson was born in 1769 and died in East Windsor, Ct. on the farm of Ann's father, which she inherited upon her parents death, on July 12, 1841. He was a farmer and ship builder. Prior to 1814 he had built several vessels on the river at the mouth of the Scantic. According to "History of Ancient Windsor, Ct." Vol. II, page 107, "John was a resident North of the Scantic in East Windsor."
His wife, Anne was born in East Windsor, 19 December, 1771 and died on the family farm 4 Aug. 1836. Again, according to "History of Ancient Windsor, Ct." it says of Anne Watson:
"Passers along the road from the Hill to Scantic will see, at some little distance from the road, north of that stream, an oblisk of white marble, standing in what was once a grove, the private burial place of the Watsons, bearing the following inscription: Ann / wife of / John Watson / only child of / John and Alice Bliss / Born Dec. 19, 1771 / Died Aug. 4, 1836 /Stranger, whose feet have wandered to this grove of silence, contemplate this Monument. Beneath it is interred the dust of what once was a lovely form, inhabited by a mind of superior intelligence, worth, and benevolence. As a daughter and friend, as a wife and mother, few whom she left behind merit so bright a name. Cherish her memory. Follow her example."
Ann (Bliss) Watson is a descendant of Hon. Daniel Clark and Deacon William Bliss, both immigrated from England in the mid 1630's I would be happy to share that info with you if you have not found it yet.
