Hopes in SC (1695-1828)
iN 1695, Rev Joseph Lord of Dorchester, Colony, MA, was given permission for a Puritan Mission to SC. In December, Lord and a fewresidents left MA for Charleston, SC. Lord had obtained an 1,88 acre land grant outside Charleston, SC, where he established the first Puritan Church, against the will of everyone in SC. The small congreation met disease and heat. By 1720, Lord returned to MA and a new church. The remaining occupants returned to MA, migrated to NC or went inland on the Savannah River to establish a fort and the townsite of Midway in what became Liberty Co, GA near Hinesville, GA. There are several wills for Hope in Charleston Co, SC. John in 1728 and John in 1800. My last known Hope ws William, born 1769 in Beaufort? Co, SC, who settles in Liberty Co, GA circa 1800. His Y-DNA is not that of the Hopes in Northern SC and I am wodering if there is any knowledge of Hopes in New England or MA, who went to SC as Puritans. I know many Hopes were Puritans, many Ministers also, who left the NE and migrated to VA. Anyone know of Hopes going to SC? [email protected]
