Unfortunately, I don't have any info to add to your search, but I am wondering if you might help me out with a puzzle in mine.

My ancester, Philip Pierce and his brother William came to Canada from England in the 1840's. Both brothers were said to be born in 1821 or 1822.

When both married, they named their first born sons, William Hopcroft Pierce. The name was repeated for a few generations. The name Hopcroft is unique to the Pierces alone up here (Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada), and no family bears the last name Hopcroft (then or now).

I suspect Hopcroft was a maternal name passed on, possibly the first Pierce's mother's maiden name. Do you know of any Pierce's married into any Hopcroft families in your area? Do you have any Pierce's living in your area at all?

Any help will be appreciated as this is a dead end.

Thanks
Elizabeth
