Prior to joining the Royal Fencible Americans, James Hooper served for a short time in the 6th Connecticut Regiment of the American Army. He and several others deserted the 6th Connecticut to become Loyalists and join the RFA. According to American Revolutionary War pension records, he deserted on 27 September 1777. RFA records indicate he joined them that same day. American records also indicate that James was from New Haven, Connecticut. This information appears in an article I published in the Winter 2003 issue of "Generations," The Journal of the New Brunswick Genealogica Society.
