James Hooks in 1840 census of Stewart Co., Ga.
Does anyone know of James Hooks ancestors or descendants. There were two other Hooks households in Stewart Co.,Ga., in 1840.Asa Hooks and his son Alexander. The three families lived within a few miles of each other.James had business deals with Asa.Asa's daughter Rachel Barefoot and her husband,William Barefoot lived 14 houses from James.I believe that Asa and James might have been
related.
My gggrandfather was John H. Hooks b. 1821 and did not marry until 1843 so he would have been tabulated in his
parents home.James had two males listed in the 15/20 age
group which could have included John H.Tradition with
descendants of John H, Hooks and his wife Elizabeth Ann
Gilbert was that he was employed On Judge Thomas Gilbert's
plantation as overseer and fell out of favor when he married
The Judge's 14 year old daughter.
If any one knows anything about this family we will appreciate your sharing it.
