Ralph, I know this is a response to an 8 year old thread but I am hoping you will see and respond.
You say you are related to the Rev. Thomas Hooker of Connecticut.
There is a Hooker DNA Project at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hooker/http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hooker/ .
So far we have at least 4 distinct and different Hooker lineages. Please consider joining. We WOULD LOVE to have a descendant of the Rev for vital comparisons and helpful connection back to the UK. We welcome any and all males with the Hooker surname to be tested.
You do not have to take the DNA test - though it would be wonderful -but we would also love to see your paper trail as it might help someone else.
Familytreedna.com is the lab we are using.
(I am of the mid 1600s VA/NC line now designated as the William I line. My uncle has been tested at the 67 marker and so far we match with 2 other Hooker males as "tightly related" to "related."
