I am likely a distant cousin to you as my earliest proven ancestor was George Hooker, b. 1788 NC. All the VA/NC and other Southern lines are distinct from the Rev. Thomas Hooker, as you know. Most of the New England, and later Midwestern, families are his descendants. The General's family seems to be yet another branch even though for many years some thought he was a descendant of the Reverend. There are a few later immigrants, usually German, who appear in almost every state and who Americanized their names to Hooker and other variations. ---Darrell R. Hooker
