Tony, I am certainly no expert on this but I believe that the Stephen who was a weaver, served on the colonial assembly, and was at times "under sherff" to High Sheriff John Hooker was the Stephen (will 1766) who was John's brother. The Stephen in your post was Sheriff John's eldest son by Elizabeth Mary Swain. He had for certain a son named Francis for whom he registered a mark and brand in 1784 and a son Stephen (at this time there was a Stephen who married a Mary Ward in Tyrrell Co. in 1791 and a Stephen who mmarried Polly Wilcox in Pasquotank Co. in1798) and possibly a Nathan.
I am still searching for the parents of Hiram/Hyram Hooker who married Anne Davenport in 1816 in Tyrrell Co.
