Hello Kate.
And a very special hello to Kyle whom I have not seen in the forum for some time now. Welcome back. Kate, who was your great grandfather? There are many Hooker names missing from your list. Examples: Samuel Clayton Hooker born about 1750-died 1824 of Bertie County, NC, was the son of Stephen Hooker, grandson of William Hooker ll, great grandson of
William Hooker l of Chowan County, NC. You are not related to Samuel because I have the entire Samuel C. Hooker family files complete with photos. One photo in particular of the Hooker family memorial which sets in the middle of a farm field in Kinston, just outside of Hookerton, NC. This farm was once owned by William Hooker ll. In 1900, Harry Hooker, had a huge marble Memorial made which includes many of the Hooker family names including Stephens and Hardy just to mention a few. William Hooker ll's farmhouse burned down in 1983. I have stood on this farm many times. It is now, and has been under the ownership of Mary Stanton Hooker who is 99 years young. Mary lives in a retirement center in NC.A wonderful lady. I don't think you are related to Nathan Hooker either. I descend from Nathan and I also have this entire line. I also have photos of Johns farmhouse that is still in remarkable condition considering the age of same. It is owned by a very nice lady that used to live in same until 1955 when her then husband built a new home. She wants to maitain Johns house as long as she lives. The Hooker names you have mentioned and the dates they were in Tyrell County may be confusing you. William l left Chowan County, NC in 1780 and purchased 200 acres of land in what was then Dobbs County, NC. Now Greene County, paying 4250 pounds then current money for the land. Kyle is ultra knowledgable of the Hooker clan Kate and if you trace back through the Hooker forum you will see many of his postings. I believe these postings will help you a great deal. Your grandfathers, and great grandfathers full name would help us to help you determine your DAR line. Kyle, if you do not have photos of the Hooker Memorial or any Hooker headstones in Kinston or Hookerton, NC, please let me know.
Warmest regards to both of you
Ernest(Ernie) William Hooker.
