Hello Jon,
Thanks for your reply. I would be interested to know any details regarding the 1st marriage of Elisha to Rebecca Davis. How did you come by this information? Was she a native of Georgia? I am well acquainted with John Columbus. My father was John Columbus III. He recently passed away. Also, how did you come by the information that Elisha's father, Robert (m. to Mary Sibbett) was from Duplin County? Billie Dean and I have been communicating for years, and he had told me about corresponding with you. I'm not sure if he told you of the geneaology research done and subsequent reports by Helen Leary. These are very interesting and focus primarily on generations further back in time than Robert(father of Elisha.) In essence, based on what I believe to be true, Elisha's father Robert (m. Mary Sibbett) was the son of George Hooks. Billie Dean's gg grandfather was named George, who was brother to Elisha(who you have referenced as travelling together to Mississippi) and most likely named after his Grandfather, George. This George, (father of Robert married to Mary Sibbett) served in the NC Militia from the Wilmington District during the Revolution and drew a voucher number for his service. I furthermore believe that this George was the son of Robert Hooks from Duplin County and that this Robert,( who had a brother named William that journeyed with him to apply for a grant of land from the Royal Governor in New Bern, NC) and William were sons of John Hooks m to Ruth from Bertie Co. NC. It is from these generations back that the work of Ms. Leary focuses on. kind regards, JLH
