A biography/family history of Samuel Lloyd Hood, Savage, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 683 & 684. Samuel L. was born, 30 Sep 1889, son of Samuel and Margaret (Hawley) Hood. The father, Samuel was in the lumber business and then homesteaded near Republican City, NE. Margaret Hawley was born in Indiana in 1863, daughter of Elisha Hawley. Samuel L. Hood attended public schools in Republican City, NE, and took a course at the University of Nebraska. In 1904, accompanied by his mother and brother, he journeyed to Montana, landing at old Fort Buford on 11 Mar. Margaret made a homestead claim and worked as a cook at the roadhouse at Newlon while Samuel and his youger brother, Claire C., stayed on the claim. Margaret proved up on her claim, farmed and supervised it. The Hood family became grain farmers and horse raisers. Samuel L. continued farming the family homestead located five miles from where the town of Fairview is now located. In the winter months of 1907 and 1910, Samuel L. attended the agricultural department of the University of Nebraska. In 1910, he was employed by the Mondak State Bank for four years. During two years he was a collector for the International Harvester Company and at the close of that period, in 1915, he located to Savage, MT, where he was employed as cashier of the First National Bank. On 17 Nov 1917, Billings, MT, Samuel L. married Miss Anna R. Mickelson, born 10 Mar 1893, Brush, Co, the youngest of twelve children. She was a teacher in Richland county for five years before her marriage. Hood child: Norma R. Samuel Lloyd Hood died, 9 Mar 1951, Santa Barbara, CA Anna R.
