Zachariah Hood did have a son Daniel b. ca 1842 in SC, and they did live in Pike Co. AL, so you are probably on the right track.

Zachariah Hood was from Fairfield Co. SC. His parents were Nathaniel Hood and Sarah Bullard. I don't know much about them, but I seem to recall that there are messages here on the forum about them.
