John Jr., William D. Hood in Scott, VA

I am looking for information on a line of Hoods that moved from Powell, Scott County, Virginia to Big Stone Gap Wise Virginia. They moved between the years of 1900 and 1910. From what I understand, Big Stone Gap was like a southern Pittsburgh at the time. Most families that moved there after the 1880’s came to work with the coalmines. The censuses show the Hoods as farmers in 1880. Later in 1900, they worked as ore miners.

So far, all I can seem to find are censuses. Does anyone have any other information on these Hoods?

My line of Hood is:

William D. Hood, born around 1870 in Scott County, married Elizabeth Thompson in 1888. His father was John Jr. Hood, born in April 1847, married Mary A. Childress.

John Jr. Hood father, John was born in 1812 in Green County Tennessee. He moved to Scott County sometime before 1840. He married Comfort Mary Rhoton on May 9, 1834.

Cordially,

Floyd Wayne Hood
