Know all men by these presents that we Mary HOOD Thomas HOOD John HOOD Joseph GRACY Mathew HOOD Samuel HOOD Humphrey HOOD Robert HOOD Mary HOOD Junr Catharine HOOD James HOOD Andrew HOOD Elizabeth HOOD of the State of South Carolina Lancaster District for and in consideration of the Sum of Fifty Dollars to us in hand paid by Wm HOOD of the State and District afresd Have granted bargain Sold Released & by these presents grant Bargain Sell & Release unto the sd Wm HOOD a tract & parcel of land Containing two hundred & twenty acres more or less Situate in the State and District afresd on the waters of Ceder Creek the same being a part of Seperate grants to the above named grantees containing two hundred acress more or less beginning at a Maple Corner on Len Flemmons line to his Corner thence turning from sd line to Gatons line thence to Baly Flemmons line thence to Mar[?tin] Stephens line thence to William Balys line thence to ?wine_ line thence to a state Corner thence to the begining mapple Corner all your Rights tittle and claim of the above mentioned tract of land we sign over for the Consideration above mentioned unto the sd William Hood his heirs and assigns forever in witness Whereof we do all set our names this 10 day of December in the year 1818

A descendant of Andrew Hood has been dna tested, Hood Line VI at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hood/results.html
also 4 other test participants match closely, but I'm not sure of their lineage.
We are trying to get a larger, more comprehensive testing of all Matthew's direct HOOD surnamed descendants, and more complete lineages from Mathew & Mary Hood. If you believe you are from this line, but are not sure, PLEASE consider testing. From experience, I've found 12-marker testing matches you to Middle Ages, before people had surnames. 25-marker isn't that much better, and of course the more it costs, the better it is. Consider starting at 37-marker, which may be upgraded with no additional test swabs. Painless!
