I know nothing of this Thomas Hood line. In the course of my research into Matthew Hood of Lancaster Co., SC (no pension), ordered several pensions, transcribed, thought I may as well share. HOOD, THOMAS, Rev. War Pension S38039 Synopsis of Pension in letter dated 11 January 1932 to Mr. Loring M. Hewan, NY, NY from A. D. Hiller, Assistant Administrator, Commissioner of Pensions. Retyped by Mary Lu Johnson, Trafford, AL. "Reference is made to your letter relative to Thomas Hood, a soldier of the Revolutionary War. The data furnished herein are obtained from the papers on file in the Revolutionary War claim for pension, S38039, based upon the military service of Thomas Hood in that war. Thomas Hood enlisted in Gloucester County, Virginia, February 21, 1776, served in Captains James Innis' and "Demetry Amodidys" ' (a French officer) Virginia Companies, and in Captains James Pendleton's, Anthony Singleton's and James Booker's Companies, Colonel Charles Harrison's First Regiment of Artillery, and acted as sergeant major of the regiment. He was in the battles of ?Cayan's Island, Monmouth, Stony Point, Gates' Defeat (Camden) siege of Yorkton and surrender of Cornwallis and was discharged July 20, 1783. He stated that he received twenty-three wounds. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 14, 1818, at which time he was aged sixty-five years and resided in Person County, North Carolina. In a820, he stated that his wife was then aged fifty-four years but he did not give her name or the date of their marriage and there is no reference to children. In 1824, he was living in Richmond, Virginia. He died April 10, 1828. The Revolutionary War records do not show a claim for pension on file on account of the services of George Mathews, as described by you, or of any John Balch. Very truly yours, A. D. Hiller, Assistant to Administrator. [Footnote]: George Mathews served under Col. Andrew Lewis at Point Pleasant & later commanded a regiment and was at Germantown where wounded and taken prisoner."
