Hope you get it.
This information received from Mystic Seaport, concerning the Isaac Bell
27 December 1999
From the files of: Theo Mann-Price and Janice Mann-Parret
Isaac Bell is identical to her sister ship, Samuel M. Fox.Isaac Bell was built for Fox, and Livingston for service on the Union Line of packets between New York, and LeHarve. Her dimenstions 171/feet by 39/feet by 26/feet & 6 1/2 inches. Her tonage 1072.Isaac Bell was lauched with Golden Gate and Gezette on January 21st, 1851, and entered into service in February. Her first captain John Johnston
Isaac Bell was named after a master mariner turned murchant.Bell was associated with Francis DePau's daughters. Two of DePau's daughters marriedSamuel M. Fox. and Mortimer Livingston who's partnership Fox & Livingston eventially assumed the operation of theLeHarve line. The vessel later ran between New York, and New Orleans for E. E. Hurlbit & Company. on Post.Smith & Company's regular to Antwerp, and in 1858 she was owned by E.E. Morgan's line to London.
In her later years she was owned byW. S. Drayton who dispatched her from Cardiff to Shanghai in the summer of 1860 with a carco of Welsh coal.On the 7th of August she grounded on the North Bank of the Yangtzse Kiang as she was approching the end of a long voyage. Captain B. M. Warner and his crew were saved but the vessel which had become a total reck in a few days was sold at auction shortly afterwords.
The mosty enduring accomplishments of the Isaac Bell was a 19/day westword crossing to New York, the fifteenth best crossing on record of thousands of vouages made by packets.
Muystic Seaport sent a copy of a newspaper showing theIsaac Bell in New York harbor withJohn Johnston as captain coming from LeHavre on July 5th 1851. This picture is in the files of Theo Mann-Price
My GGG Grandparent's Johann B. Mann SR, and Margaretha/Margarette Mann, and son Johann B. Mann JR. my GG-Grandfather crossed to the United States on the Isaac Bell on the voayge before she was grounded.I would be curious to know if the "Mann's" had any other children with them at the time.
