Homer, Plowman, Cornelius, Blockwell-1790-1830 -NC, KY, TN, AL & IL
John HOMER married Rebecca CORNELIUS, daughter of William Cornelius of Spotsylvania VA, on Feb 25, 1793 in Lincoln Co., NC. They moved to Madison Co, KY, maybe with CORNELIUS family.William Cornelius is listed on the 1790 Census of Lincoln Co. NC, pg. 114.Males under 16 - 1; over 16- 2; All females - 5.

Perhaps . . . this John HOMER was the father of the Nancy HOMER who married John PLOWMAN in Madison Co. KY in 1816.
The couple, (John PLOWMAN and Nancy HOMER)had at least two children - a daughter, Dicey who was born in TN about 1817 and another daughter, Eliza who was born in 1818.
Either Nancy HOMER PLOWMAN died shortly, or the marriage didn't last because according to Civil War pension records for Dicy's husband, the two sisters were separated at a young age and Eliza was raised in Alabama while Dicy was raised in TN.Eliza PLOWMAN eventually married George P. SULLIVAN and lived in Alabama, and later moved to Johnson Co, IL about 1845 where her sister Dicy was then living.
John HOMER appears on the Maury Co, TN census in 1830.The household looks like this: John HOMER is 60-70, Female 50-60, a male 15-20, and a female 10-15.
There is a Charles HOMER in adjoining Giles Co. in land records (#218 that is not dated but seems to be dated aft 1845.)
A Charles HOMER and George W. HOOMERappear on the Johnson Co, IL 1840 Census pgs 408 & 410 and they may be related to the Dicy who's info follows:
Dicy PLOWMAN married Martin H. DAVIS in Johnson Co, IL in 1838, so she - as well as some HOMER's are in southern Illinois by 1838. No other Plowmans are found in Johnson Co, IL then except Dicy.
Now for the PLOWMANS:
Two Jonathan PLOWMAN's, a James PLOWMAN and an Edward PLOWMAN are listed in the 1790 Federal Census, Baltimore MD, Patapsco Lower Hundred, pg. 31.
A John PLOWMAN marries Claressa Gaskins 20 Jul 1805 in Carteret NC.Bond # 000012812.
Also a John PLOWMAN is listed in Rowan Co, NC in 1800 census, page 297, unk township - Husband, wife and two young females.
There is a John PLOWMAN on the 1800 Madison Co, KY Census.
This John PLOWMAN appears on the Madison Co KY census in 1810, pg 223 with two males who are marriageable age, probably Thomas and John: 1 male 16-25, l male 26-44, 1 male 45 & up, 1 female 45 & up. (Perhaps one of them is a the John PLOWMAN who married Nancy HOMER in 1816 in Madison Co.)
John PLOWMAN is indicated by the War of 1812 Service Records that list John PLOWMAN in 18 Regt, Kentucky Militia, Roll 166, Box 602.
In 1820 there is Thomas PLOWMAN in Madison KY, but John is gone.
The following PLOWMAN marriages are listed in the Madison Co Marriage Records from 1808 to 1816:

Plowman, Sally to Farthing, Dudley 107 May 241814
Plowman, Susannah to Adams, John109 Jul --1808

There is a John PLOWMAN on the Maury Co, TN census in 1820-- John PLOWMAN age 26-45, 1 female age 16-26, 2 females ages under 10.Could this be John and Nancy?
John PLOWMAN is also listed on the Lauderdale Co. AL census for 1820.Alabama was made a state in 1819 and I have only seen an index to this census. Because of the close proximity to Maury Co, TN, I think he might have been enumerated twice.
Polly BLOCKWELL appears on the Lauderdale AL 1820 census as a head of household.John PLOWMAN marries Polly BLOCKWELL 1 Aug 1821 in Lauderdale Alabama (Mar Bk 1, 1820-1825).
In 1830, a Jonathan PLOWMAN is in Giles Co Tenn in 1830. pg. 66 - 1 Male 20-30, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30.
A Jno PLOWMAN is also in Giles Co, TN, 1830 census on page 87. 1 Male 40-50, 1 male 20-30, l female 5-10, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 40-50.
Did John Plowman take one daughter Eliza, who would have been 2-3 years old, with him to live in Alabama when he remarried, leaving Dicy in TN with Homers? This would explain the reference to the two sisters being raised apart in TN and AL.
In a county history of Johnson Co. IL, Eliza's maiden name is listed as PLOWMAN.
In a family bible belonging to Dicy's daughter, Dicy's maiden name is listed as HOMER, instead of PLOWMAN -- which is listed on her marriage license. In testimony contained in Dicy's husbands pension file, another relative also refers to Dicy's maiden name as HOMER.This seems to indicate a close association between Dicy's family and the HOMER family that was enough to cause the Illinois relatives to assume that HOMER was Dicy's immediate family.
