I know some about the various Homer families in America. The artist, Winslow Homer, was a member of the most prolific, a family that traces its roots back to Massachusetts in the 1600s. Although your immediate family is small, keep asking for help and looking. If memory serves me correctly, Winslow Homer died childless, but you may very well be part of his large Homer family, especially since you live in New York, not too far from Massachusetts! You might want to check in with the nearest genealogical library, especially if you can find one belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (should be in the phone book) and ask for help in tracing your roots.
