I've just come across your exchange of messages re the Tuite Sterlings, which I read with great interest. In 1878, in London, my Great Grandmother, Emma Alice White, married Arthur Tuite Sterling. On the marriage certificate Arhtur gives his Father's details as Mark Sterling, surgeon Indian Army. Arthur would have been born around 1850, and as no record of his birth exists in this country I assume it was overseas. Emma and Arthur had a son, also Arthur, in 1879.The following year Arthur died in Hackney of T.B. In 1887 Emma married Jesse Baylie from Stourbridge and they went on to have six children. Their eldest, Alice, was my paternal Grandmother. I can't help but think your Mark Sterling and mine are the same man. I'd love to hear from anyone who can shed any light on this.
