Dear Christine and Ian,

My cousin has now had a look at the Madras ecclesiastical register in the OIOC. Lo and behold, Henry Ponsonby Tuite was baptised on 7 October 1857 as the son of Mark and Charlotte Sterling.

Leaving aside the slight muddle in the register over surnames, I think we can now be certain that Henry, Ian's great grandfather, was indeed the son of the Mark Sterling born in 1806 and his second wife Charlotte née Brooks. It also seems very likely that Christine's Mark, born in the 1850s, was Henry's brother.

Could I suggest the time is ripe for one of you to sketch out a little Tuite-Sterling tree, with all the dates and names we know! A prior visit to the OIOC would I'm sure pay dividends - for example you could check on the Mormons website record of two daughters to Mark and Charlotte, who must have been sisters to Henry and young Mark.
