Thanks for your message. Yes I think it is quite probable that your great grandfather Henry Ponsonby Tuite-Sterling was a son or grandson of the Mark we have been talking about, more likely grandson I would guess but either seems possible. What we need is for someone to go to the Old India Office Collectioin in the British Library and look up the entry for Henry's birth with parents' names. Since you have the date that should not be difficult. There seems to me a good chance of getting the whole ancestry sorted out! I have a cousin who sometimes goes to the OIOC and I'll ask him to have a look for us.
