Dear Ian, I'm glad you got in touch. You must have seen my messages with Christine O'Brien. I have also seen the names and addresses of two other Tuite-Sterlings, Lynne in Woodborough, Notts and a family in Southend-on-Sea - all relatives of yours I guess. Are you the motor racing Ian? Anyway, you'll have got the gist of what I have discovered from the messages you have seen already. What we have is the certainty of a Mark Sterling, whose father's name was George Tuite, who married on 31 Jan 1842 in Madras Charlotte Brooks and who was then a 36 year old widower (I don't know the name of his first wife). He was probably the Mark Sterling baptised in Madras on 4 Nov 1806. If you look at the Mormons website (the IGI) you should find two daughters born to Mark and Charlotte Sterling. I have not yet checked this out myself for their birth dates etc, but I would be willing to bet quite heavily that the Mark Tuite Sterling who Christine says was born in the 1850s (and was her gt grandfather) was the brother of these two girls i.e. another child of Mark and Charlotte. Christine also mentions the second Mark marrying Louisa Margaret Home/Holm and having two daughters Ethel May born in 1879 in Black Town (which was a district of Madras) and Clara Adeline born in the same place. She also thinks there were two sons whose names she does not know. Could one of these sons be your ancestor - great grandfather maybe. Can you give us the names of your paternal forbears back to a gt grandfather? I think the baronet story is probably correct. We have a similar story in my family, but without the title. Charlotte's stepfather was Thomas Arthur Chamier born in 1805 as the illegitimate son of a Chamier who was a senior official in the Madras government and an Anglo-Indian woman. Looking forward to hearing if you can plug into the two Marks story above. Would you like to be notified when my full report covering all this is ready? Yours sincerely, Anthony Chamier Notify Administrator about this message?
