Mary,
The only method I know of tracing the indian blood line has been through word of mouth from generation to generation. My father told me that we had Cherokee blood but was not specific about it. He also told me that we had Scotch and German blood. The German blood he said was from the Pennsylvania Dutch. Through my research, Phebe Brown had both German and Scotish blood. German from her father Solomon Brown, and Scothish from her mother Mary (Polly) Bayless. This then leaves John Holybee for the Cherokee blood. How far back it extends is unknown because we cant seem to get any information on John Holybee. I hope this helps some. Vern Holybee
