I am afraid that I cannot help you with stories on the Hog Island Holts. I am related to another Holt line out of St. Mary's, Maryland. In the 1600s and 1700s, if an article mentioned a Holt in Virgina it was either a Hog Island Holt or a St. Mary's, Maryland Holt.
I found an article you should read. A book titled "Southside Virginian Families" Vol. II by John B. Boddie has an article titled Holt of Surry on pages 275 to 286. I tried to find an article on the Holts I read maybe twenty-five years ago. I thought it was in the Virginia Genealogist Magazine but I could not find it. It is about twenty pages on the early generations of the Hog Island Holts. I will continue to look for the second article. I thought I made a copy from microfilm twenty-five years ago and I never throw anything away.
By the way, southside refers to the south side of the James River in Virginia.
