Ray,
Have you been a donor for the Holt Y-DNA project yet?It will not tell you the name of your particular Holt grandfathers, but it will connect you to the group of Holts they & you are genetically related to.A 12 marker test is $101 total. Well worth it, I believe!
The least it does is allows you to stop searching for your ancestors in other Holt groups who don't have the same Y-DNA as you do.
Females can't be donors for the Y-DNA tests, and sons of Holt daughters can't either.Because you have the Holt surname, it indicates you can down an unbroken line of Holt males in your line. That's good as that is exactly what is needed to qualify you to be a donor.
I'm a descendant of both the Randolph/Randall Holt and Robert & Richard Holt groups. To my surprise, the two groups were not related.Their not being genetically related is based on the accuracy of the names of the earliest KNOWN ancestors the donors gave when they did the test.It could be misleading if someone submits their GUESSES as to their early, ancestors rather than their KNOWN ancestors.
