Traditionally, coates of arms are not assigned to a specific surname. When they were in actual use, a son would take a portion of hs fathers coat of arms and incorporate it into his own. When the tradition of heraldry died out, they became somewhat more fixed, but there could be different coats of arms for one surname...One of the most well known for the Holzngers follows:
Blue background, with green "mounds at bottom" (looks somewhat like the top of clover) On the blue field is a brown "log" with 2 green leaves andtwo red flowers with gold seeds. It is roughly drawn in "David Holsinger of Virginia".
