Dear David
Yes you were correct it is West Derby, Liverpool.Yes the address that you mentioned is the address that he lived at.What we dont know is what happened to him after that.We assume he went to Calcutta and taught Shakespeare at the university there around 1912 - 1915.It appears that he edited a book called As You Like It (1914) and Marlowe's Edward the Second (1913.Whilst he was at Calcutta university he wrote an article on the Progress of Education in Bengal (Sixth Quinquiennial report) cant find out what year.He is mentioned in Mother India as having had a great impact on teaching Shakespeare in India and returned to UK where he wrote lots more, but I cant find much more than the two mentioned above. Cant get a reply from Sukanta Choudahri at Calcutta University who mentions the impact that he had on Shakespearean teaching in India.
It appears that most of our lot married at the Registry there at West Derby, Liverpool or Toxteth Park.
No I didnt know that pupil teacher meant trainee teacher, thanks for that. How do I find out if he taught at the local schools etc?
I have left my f hx stuff at home today but I will repost info later today or tomorrow.
Regards
Clare
