I would suggest looking at the film of the 1861 census records too - often the second time around they have managed to work out where they were born!Levens is about 3 miles north of Milnthorpe on the A590 if that helps you locate it.Slyne is only about 12 - 15 miles away - south.
I agree, the census index entry doesnt preclude the relationship with John & Agnes as errors can occur!It would seem, though, that John and Agnes were fairly steadily in the C & L area given the record of their kids' baptisms per IGI.
I agree that it would be a good idea to check up with George's marriage, someone pertinent may have signed off as a witness!
Slyne was apparently Bolton le Sands and apparently the parish is transcribed onto the IGI but, as Dave said, no record of yon George.
