Josiah Holloway b. 1836 North Carolina (NC) migrated to Dime Box Texas (TX) 1875
Hi there,
Please help!My 93yo grandfather (Paw Paw) passed away last week and was in the middle of telling me his paternal sides family history.I was told that his grandfather, Josiah Holloway (Holiway etc.) was born in North Carolina and was one of about 7-10 children.Paw Paw told me that his family was "Dutch Irish" and that Josiah left his large NC family primarily because he supported the African American struggle, unlike the rest of his family.
Josiah moved to Lee County, Texas (then called Brown's Mill, name later changed to Old Dime Box) sometime around 1875 to start anew, married Ann (b. 1850 in Tennessee) and had 3 known children, John (b. Aug 1877), George (b. Mar 1879), Samuel (b. Aug 1881).Paw Paw was one of George's sons (George married Carrie Wilson and had 10+ children.) Thankfully we have the completed line of George, John and Samuel.
We would love to find out more information about the North Carolina line of our family, especially siblings of Josiah and parental info. From what I was told Josiah was the only one of the children to move to Texas.
I pulled this information from the Lee County website, from their 1900 Census:
Josiah Holiway Ann Justice Precinct 1, Lee, Texas 1836 North Carolina White Head
Ann Holiway Josiah Justice Precinct 1, Lee, Texas 1850 Tennessee White Wife
Johne Holiway Josiah,
Ann Justice Precinct 1, Lee, Texas Aug 1877 Texas White Son
George Holiway Josiah,
Ann Justice Precinct 1, Lee, Texas Mar 1879 Texas White Son
Samuel Holiway Josiah,
Ann Justice Precinct 1, Lee, Texas Aug 1881 Texas White Son
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa
