Bennett Holloway’s will (written Dec 8, 1809, book 7, page 135) identifies that James Holloway does have a brother named John. And, his will combined with the tax records of Mecklenburg are also a pretty good match for when John and James Holloway show up in Henderson and Union County Kentucky respectively.
When I looked at William Holloway’s will of 10 Feb 1827 (Book 11, page 142) I see that William gives significant property to Elizabeth H. Holloway (named as a daughter) and that on her death the property is to go to Martha B. Holloway (Edward Holloway’s daughter). Also named is William Holloway, Jr.
The interesting part is that when I looked up Elizabeth H. Holloway’s will of 18 Sept 1827 (Book 11, page 265) that she identifies her niece Martha Holloway, along with brother Gray and John’s children.
My curiosity is the comment on brother Gray and John’s children. The tax record in my opinion pretty well lays out my John Holloway & his brother James (based on slaves names, dates, etc.) There is another ‘poor’ John in the tax record of 1810 - 1812 (no slaves, one horse) that shows up much later (possibly a son of Edward) as well as a rather odd 1792 entry for a couple of John Holloways.
Any thoughts on this other John, i.e., brother Gray and John’s children per Elizabeth H. Holloway’s will? ... mostly just curious!
(If you perchance don’t have a copy of Bennett, William, Gray, or Elizabeth H. Holloway’s wills I can scan and send them to you).
Thanks again for your time and consideration -- it’s truly appreciated.
