Jim:
This Nancy I am looking for was born in 1858 in Missouri. Since I wrote my query, things have changed direction significantly.Although I have documents that use the name Halloway [her son's social security application, for one], this has not proven to be the case.I'll try to explain, although it is complicated.
Further in my research, I have found her name to be Hedrick. How this is possible, I don't know, but the census seems to prove it out, although other records do not agree.I can find her in 1870 as a Hedrick, 1880 with her parents [but surname is Cash] and a daughter [Nancy is widowed]; Nancy's mother is on the 1900 [Poplar Bluff] and 1920 [Springfield] census with her. So I know I have the right person.
It's all rather a mystery to me, where the Halloway name came from [in Butler or Cape Girardeau Counties].The more I find, the more questions arise, rather than solutions! But my leaning right now is the Nancy Rachel was a Hedrick, daughter of Francis M. Hedrick. I have never seen anything like this particular situation before, but the census records I have found prove this case out.Where Halloway comes from, I can't tell.Do you know of any ties of Halloways to Hedricks?
