Laban, Ruthy,Elisha,Armstead,Etc,Holloway/Powell
In researching my Powell kin who married into the Holloway family, I have come up with some ideas about the Laban/Ruthy Holloway family.
Allen J. Powell married Elizabeth Holloway, dtr of Ruthy, in 1833, Blount Co AL.
Absalom Powell married Milly Holloway, dtr. of Ruthy, in 1843, Blount Co AL. Ruthy Holloway was living with this family in 1850 Blount census.
In 1851-52, Allen J. and Absalom moved to Montgomery Co, AR.It is not known if Ruthy made the move.In trying to determine why the move to Montgomery Co., I found Elisha D.(Dotson)Holloway(b.1811 Tn) there in the 1850 Montgomery Co AR census. Hence, the move to an area where the Holloway girls had a brother, and Ruthy, a son. Also in 1850 Montgomery Co is John C. Holloway(b.1820 Ky), another brother?
I have not confirmed it, but there is supposedly a marriage between Laban Holloway and Ruthy Dotson in 1810, Ky.Unsure about county, could be Warren. In the Allen Co area. This was on the border with TN and disputed; hence, some may have thought they were born in Tn and acually been in Ky and vice-versa.
1820 Allen Co Ky is Laban Holloway
3 males under 10Elisha D.(1811),Armstead(1814),John C.(1820)
1 male 26-45Laban
2 females under 10Elizabeth(1815), Nancy(mar. Allen Self 1833 Blount Co)
1 female 26-45Ruthy
Last record of Laban in Allen Co Ky is Aug 5 1823 when he sells land to Arthur Campbell. Prior to move to Blount Co AL? Tradition is he died late 1820's.
1830 Blount Co AL Ruthy Holloway, head of household
2 males 5-10John C.(1820), James C.(1823)
2 males 15-20Elisha D.(1811), Armstead(1814)
1 female 0-5Milly(1827 AL)
2 females 10-15Elizabeth and Nancy
1 female 40-50Ruthy
1840 Blount Co AL Ruthy Holloway, head of household
1 male 15-20James C.(1823)
1 female 10-15Milly(1827)
1 female 50-60Ruthy
Armstead Holloway was a witness to marriage of Absalom Powell and Milly, signed that "she was of age, according to my father's family Bible."
Armstead and James C. both patented land in 1858 in Blount Co AL, in an area that later became Cullman Co in 1877.Same area as my remaining Powell's were living.
Milly, Nancy, and Ruthy are girl's names that are found often in Holloway and Powell families. As is James.
Can any of the Holloway researchers add any confirmations?
