Ed,
I believe you are correct that these are two different James HOLLOWAYs.Darrell Howell did not mention where the marriage between James HOLLOWAY and "Mary Martha SPENCER" occurred, but based on the date and similarity of names, I think they are probably the couple listed in an index of Charlotte County, Virginia, Marriage Bonds, 1765-1863, p. 118:
Groom: Holloway, James;
Bride: Martha Owen Spencer,
Date: 21 Feb. 1779;
Bondsman: Thomas Spencer -- f.
I have come across genealogies that say this James HOLLOWAY (my ancestor) was either a son of the George HOLLOWAY (b.1709) of York County, VA, who married Elizabeth CARMACK, or of George's brother, James HOLLOWAY (b.1711).Both had sons named James, but I think George is the more likely candidate.James' son James left his estate to his brothers and sisters--suggesting he probably had no children to leave it to.My ancestors James and Martha definitely had 8 or 9 children.
Based on his validated land bounty claim the James HOLLOWAY, who married Martha SPENCER, was also the James HOLLOWAY who served in the Revolutionary War in the 4th, 8th and 12th VA Continental Line Regiments from 1776 until at least 1779, ending as a captain.He and his family (along with some of his wife's Spencer relatives) moved to Jessamine County, KY, by 1790.
Please let me know if you come across any more information on my James HOLLOWAY.I would very much like to find out exactly when and where he was born.
Thanks, Julia
