Hi Josh, According to a leading expert on British surnames , Professsor David Hey , has set out a rule of thumb that if the deaths of 50 name bearers were registered in England and Wales in the five-year period 1842-6 then that average of 10 deaths per year suggests that the surname is small enough that its bearers could have had a single ancestor . Source "DNA and Family History" by Chris Pomery. There are 40 individuals bearing the name Hollister including variants 25 Females and 15 Males recorded in the Death registers for that period. We have the documentary evidence of all the Hollister family trees including variants to the mid 16th Century we only need the DNA evidence to take them forward ( I mean backwards) to the 14th Century. Hopefully more male Hollisters will join us soon in order to accomplish this project.. By the way I still have not received confirmation that my sample reached Houston . I paid for it to go by airmail but I guess it's gone by pony express or dare I say it, mule train. Please let me know when you receive the confirmation as administrator of the Project. regard, David ============================== Notify Administrator about this message?
